Fayetteville White's Isaiah Askew and Ross Shirey combined for 38 points to beat the Pointers 51-45 Thursday night in the semifinal of the Van Buren Junior High Tournament held at the Freshman Academy.

Askew led the game with 20 points as he combined points from a variety of ranges: inside, behind the arc and at the free-throw line. He shot a blistering 8 of 9 from the line. In comparison, Van Buren shot 8 of 16 from the line as a team.

Shirey just rained threes upon the Pointers. He shot three treys in each half to keep Van Buren out of striking distance.

Fayetteville White met Bentonville in the tournament's finals while Van Buren and Alma faced off in the third-place game.

The Bulldogs hit three treys in the first quarter to hold a 15-12 lead and extended it to 25-19 at halftime. The Pointers were limited to just two field goals during the second quarter and shot 3 of 8 from the line, missing the front end of two one-and-one as well.

Van Buren got back within five (33-28) after a basket by Brayden Gilmore with 36.5 seconds remaining in the third quarter. However, Askew drained a long trey to make it 36-28 going into the fourth.

Trent Ball, who finished the game with nine points, hit a trey with 14.9 seconds left and Van Buren was within two (47-45), but Askew was fouled and he went to the line to sink his final two free throws.
