7A State Basketball Tournament Comes to Town

The largest schools in the state of Arkansas will converge in Van Buren for the 7A State Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 1. The first game of the tournament will begin at 1:00 PM.

Springdale and Cabot girls will get the tournament started with a rematch of game one of the 2016. Cabot won that game 48-40. Cabot also beat Springdale earlier this season 51-48. The 2016 girls state champion, North Little Rock awaits the winner.

Game two features the fourth seeded boys team out of the 7A-West, Fayetteville, and the fifth seed out of the 7A-Central, Conway. Fayetteville beat Conway 61-51 earlier this season and is coming into the tournament on a 6 game win streak. The winner gets the number one seed from the 7A-Central, North Little Rock.

What used to be a 7A-West matchup between Northside and Bentonville girls, will be game three on the opening day of the tournament. Northside narrowly beat Bentonville twice during conference play last year. Both the Grizzlies and Tigers enter the game on 2 game win streaks. Tournament host Van Buren, the two seed from the 7A-West, will take on the winner.

Game four will be the first state tournament game for the Bentonville West boys team as they take on Little Rock Central. Central, the three seed from the 7A-Central, has won five straight games and will be a heavy favorite. Bentonville High awaits the winner.

Springdale Har-Ber will take on the Conway girls in game five of the opening day. Conway, the state runner-up last year, comes into the game having won 5 of the last 7. Har-Ber is also playing well having won 4 of the last 6. The top girls team in the state, Fayetteville, will get the winner.

The 2016 7A boys state champion, Cabot, will open its defense against Rogers Heritage. Last year, Cabot ran the table on their home court and beat Bentonville and current Kentucky Wildcat, Marcus Monk in the final, 59-49. Cabot’s enters the tournament with a very similar record to last year and will be favored over Rogers Heritage. The winner will take on Springdale Har-Ber.
