The Van Buren Pointers traveled back up I-49 to take on the Bentonville Tigers a week after falling to Bentonville West. The Pointers were looking to shake off the loss to the Wolverines and get some momentum going this week against the Tigers. Meanwhile, Bentonville has been on a roll over the past month and was looking to keep the solid play going. Bentonville came in with a win over the defending state champs and were anxious to continue string of victories.

The Tigers did not take long to strike in the first quarter, taking a little under two minutes to put the first score of the night up against the Pointers. Canaan Ross connected with Tyler Johnson on a 16-yard touchdown pass to quickly jump out 7-0 over the Pointers. The Pointers would get on the board with 7:13 to go in the first quarter, when Walter Green rushed from a yard out to even the score at 7. Bentonville would reclaim the lead two minutes later when Kam’ron Mays-Hunt caught a 52 yard touchdown pass from Canaan Ross to make the score 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Tigers would outscore the Pointers 28-0 in the second quarter and put the game out of reach. Ross would hit Jacob Clark on a 20-yard pass to get the scoring going in the second quarter. The remainder of the second quarter would not go any better for the Pointers. Van Buren would have a punt blocked that Bentonville’s Tyrell Lyons would recover in the end zone for a touchdown to make the score 28-7 Tigers. Running back Destyn Adkins would get involved with a little more than a minute to in the first half. Adkins would pound the ball in from a yard out to make the score 35-7. Van Buren would fumble the kickoff and Clark would score from four yards out make the score 42-7 at the half.

The sportsmanship rule would come into effect during the second half. The clock would run continuously, but that would not stop the Tigers from finding the end zone two more times. The Pointers would Pointers would tack on another touchdown when Caleb Salisbury hit Jimbo Mayton with an 11 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. The final score would be Bentonville 56-Van Buren 14 in what was an impressive victory for the Tigers.

Van Buren will play host to Rogers Heritage Friday night. Both Heritage and Van Buren are looking for their first conference wins of the season, and in the War Eagles case the first victory of the season. Bentonville will travel to Har-Ber in what will be a big game for each time. The Wildcats are coming off an emotional win over cross-town rival Springdale and Bentonville is a hot team right now. Har-Ber and Bentonville could be the game of the year for the 7-A West conference and it should be another fun Friday night of football.
