The Rogers Mounties came into the game Friday night looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Fayetteville. The Van Buren Pointers made the trip up to Rogers looking to defeat both Rogers’ teams within a week of one another. With the playoffs still on both teams minds, picking up a win would be important coming out of this game.

Rogers would get the score going mid-way through the first quarter. Jeb Brain would take a Max Horton handoff and rumble 84-yards for a touchdown. The rest of the first quarter would remain a defensive battle with neither team able to punch the ball in the end zone during the first quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter would be Rogers 7- Van Buren 0.

The second quarter remained a defensive battle with a little more scoring going on between the two teams. Van Buren’s offense struggled against a tenacious Mounties’ defense. Rogers’ defense was able to pick up a safety in the second quarter to make the score 9-0 Mounties. The Pointers get on the board with a touchdown in the second quarter to make the score 9-7 Rogers when Pointers running back Walter Green would escape for a 60-yard touchdown run. The halftime score would be a close one with the Mounties only leading 9-7.

he second half would belong to the Mounties. The Rogers defense would keep causing problems for the Pointers. Van Buren would fumble three times and the Mounties would not have a problem taking advantage of those miscues. Jeb Brain would rumble 6-yards for another touchdown to make score 16-7 Mounties. Rogers would tack on a field goal with 4:10 to go in the third quarter to make the score 19-7. Rogers would put the game away when Max Horton hit Grayson Lee on a 38-yard touchdown pass to make the final score 26-7.

The Pointers will attempt to right the ship against the Springdale Bulldogs Friday night. The Van Buren matchup against Springdale could determine a playoff spot. Rogers will travel to Bentonville to take on the Tigers in a battle that is all about playoff positioning. Friday should be an interesting night with a great deal on the line for the 7-A West teams.
